Flex trays along the table edge, loaded with cards, chits and dice

The flex system.

A tray that mounts to the rail. A set of inserts that drop into it — or sit anywhere on the table.

An accessory that only works in one place is not a system.

Most table accessories are made for one table. They clip to a particular edge, or sit in a particular cut-out, and the day you change tables they become a drawer full of moulded plastic. The ones that do not clip to anything slide around instead, which is its own problem at hour four.

Flex splits the job in two. A tray takes the mount, and everything else takes the tray. The tray holds to the Omnitrack rail on any Zola table; the bins, card holders and chit holders drop into it in any arrangement, and lift straight back out to sit on the tabletop when that is where they should be.

The difference

Five things a drawer of accessories cannot do.

  • One mount, shared by Pangea and Tavernwasmade for one table, obsolete on the next
  • Anywhere on the rail, moved without toolswasclamps and cut-outs decide where things go
  • Held by the tray, or held by the railwasslides across the surface mid-game
  • Add one insert at a time, in any orderwasbuy the whole set again to add one piece
  • Stays on the table because it earns the spacewaslives in a drawer between sessions

The tray

The tray
is the socket.

One part does the mounting, so nothing else has to. The Flex Tray holds to the magnetic rail, slides along it, and comes off with one hand — and its inside is a plain, level bay with no moulded compartments, because the compartments are the other half of the system.

The inserts

The inserts
are the system.

Bins for dice and tokens, holders that stand cards up where you can read them, a chit holder that builds a row along the edge, and a cup holder with an aluminium insert that doubles as a component tray. Mix them in one tray, spread them across the table, or take four of them to somebody else’s game.

whole table at once.

The Utility Series bundles put a tray, a cup holder and the inserts in front of every seat in one go — the setup most groups end up building one piece at a time.
